This is the frosting scarf. It is a super easy and quick scarf that makes a great gift. It is also a perfect stash buster! It can be made any size or length. Blue Frosting is four stitches across, Pink Frosting is 3 stitches across, and Purple frosting (lower down on the page) is 5 stitches across, just to give you an idea of sizing.

Materials:

-a drop spindle or spinning wheel

-lots of random chunky or textured yarn in similar colors

-US size 50 (25 mm) knitting needles

Notes:

US size 50 knitting needles aren’t necessary, but they make the cool loopy look that all three of my frosting scarves have. If you don’t want to use a US size 50, then I would definitely go for a US size 35 (19 mm), 19 (15 mm), or 17 (12.75 mm). Also the colors don’t have to match or be similar, that is just what I chose for my three frosting scarves.

Blue Frosting Yarn

Making the “Frosting Yarn”:

Making the yarn is very easy. Basically all you are doing is spinning multiple strands of yarn together. The bulkier you want your scarf, the more strands you should spin together. For a drop spindle (I don’t know how to use a spinning wheel) hold the 2, or more, strands of yarn together with the starting string. Spin the spindle counterclockwise. Don’t move your fingers until you see the strands spinning together on the starter yarn. Once that happens you can easily spin together as much yarn as you want. To change yarn colors, simply snip the end of one strand, and then tie the new strand on. Then keep spinning. It is hard to gauge how much yarn you have spun, or how far it will get you in a scarf. Through trial and error, you can find the amount that is right for the size scarf you wish to make. If you find that you have not made enough “frosting yarn” you can always go back to the spindle and make some more.

Making the Frosting Scarf:

Cast on 3 (4) (5) (6) stitches

Knit in garter stitch until the scarf reaches the length you want.

Cast off

Thats is the Frosting Scarf!

This is the pattern for the Persimmon Beret. The persimmon is a fruit that is called the fruit of the gods. It ranges from yellow-orange to red-orange, which is kind of like the color I used. Plus I just liked the name.

Materials:

65-100 Yards of light chunky yarn (I suggest James C. Brett marble chunky, but this hat pattern is very adaptable to other yarns)

Size 8 (5mm) circs 16 in

4 Size 8 DPNs

Stitch marker

1 Yarn needle

Gauge: 15/4 in

Size: The band of the hat is very stretchy so it will fit most heads. But i designed it for a women’s head so it will probably be most comfortable on a women.

Pattern:

Cast on 60 stitches place marker and join

Rounds 1-7: k1p1 rib

Round 8: *k3 krb* last three stitches- k2 krb k1 (80 st)

Round 9: *k4 krb* last four stitches in row- k3 krb k1 (100 st)

Round 10: *k5 krb* last five stitches inrow- k4 krb k1 (120 st)

Rounds 11-20: seed stitch

Rounds 21-23: knit

Rounds 24-33: seed stitch

Round 34: *k10 k2tog* (110 st)

Round 35: * k9 k2tog* (100 st)

Round 36: *k8 k2tog* (90 st)

Round 37: *k7 k2tog* (80 st)

Round 38: *k p k p k p k2tog p k p k p k p2tog* (70 st)

Round 39: *p k p k p k2tog k p k p k p2tog* (60 st)

Round 40: k p k p k2tog p k p k p2tog* (50 st)

Round 41: *p k p k2tog k p k p2tog* (40 st)

You may want to switch to DPNs now. 12 st on 2 of the needles 16 on one of them.

Round 42: *k p k2tog p k p2tog* (30 st) (9,9,12)

Round 43: p k2tog k p2tog* (20 st) (6,6,8)

Round 44: *k2tog p2tog* (10 st) (3,3,4)

Take 1 st from one of the 3 st needles and move it to the other 3 st needles. Doing this will make the number of stitches on each needle 4,4,2. This will make round 45 MUCH easier

Round 45: * p2tog k2tog* (5 st) (2,2,1)

Cut the yarn and draw it through the remaining stitches.

Knit Glossary

(#,#,#): Te number of stitches on each DPN

K2tog: Knit 2 stitches together

P2tog: Purl 2 stitches together

Seed Stitch: k1 p1 in the first row then p1 k1 in the second row. With this pattern the last stitch of each round will be the same as the first stitch of the next row. So there will be a place on the hat right where the marker is that is 2 knit stitches and two purl stitches next to eachother. Tt is really not noticable.

krb: Knit in the row below it is also called the KRL increase (see below for full definition from knitspeak)

This is a form of lifted increase that creates a neraly invisible increase. Guide the right hand needle from back to front into the stitch below the next stitch on the left hand needle, and under the left hand needle. Wrap the yarn around the right hand needle as you would for an ordinary knit stitch, and pull the yarn forward through the old stitch to create a new stitch. You are now ready to work the next stitch on the left hand needle.

ok here goes

designer:
Sargia Januar

supplies:
size 6 needles (this is not a set size, any size needles will work)
yarn (again this is not a set amount, whatever you want works. as long as it is not acrylic*)

“Flowing Diamonds Scarf” pattern:
Cast on 16 stitches
1- knit
2- purl
3- k3 YO k2tog k6 k2tog YO k3
4- purl
5- k4 YO k2tog k4 k2tog YO k4
6- purl
7-k5 YO k2tog k2 k2tog YO k5
8- purl
9- k6 YO k2tog k2tog YO k6
10- purl
11- k6 YO k2tog k2tog YO k6
12- purl
13- k5 YO k2tog k2 k2tog YO k5
14- purl
15- k4 YO k2tog k4 k2tog YO k4
16- purl
continue this pattern from row 3.
end scarf with
k3 YO k2tog k6 k2tog YO k3
purl
knit
Cast on

*acrylic yarn does not block so instead of being able to see the diamonds pattern you would have a curled up scarf

YO= yarn over
k2tog= knit 2 together
k#= knit that # of stitches
picture of what it looks like.

becuase of the stockinette stitch the scarf rolls up. but i think that blocking will solve that. i need to finish it first
